Consultancy Services

In addition to running her guesthouse and helping in placement services, Sabina also offers general consulting for new arrivals to Nairobi.  In the past she has helped with researchers who need assistance in getting contacts or distributing surveys or questionnaires. She can also help in orienting new arrivals who need help getting to the market, learning how to take public transportation or learning different areas of Nairobi. Sabina is happy to take people into Kibera to visit various organizations or assist in other orientation activities.  She has worked with large groups or individuals.

The charge for these services start at 1000 Kenya Shillings per day, but rates will depend on services provided.

  1. I volunteered with Sabina in 2007 at a rehabilitation center for street boys in Nairobi, and I can say that there is no one better placed to provide a volunteer service. Sabina knows the city in and out, has a wide social network to connect volunteers with various opportunities, and she is a great host. I recommend Sabina to anyone looking for a volunteer experience while traveling abroad.

  2. In 2011, I studied abroad and conducted research on prostitution in urban Kenya. Sabina was incredibly helpful in finding interviewees and offering to translate the interviews for me. Without her, it would have been nearly impossible for me to conduct my research. Sabina is one of kindest, most professional people I have known in Nairobi (and a great cook!). Anyone should feel comfortable requesting her services or staying at her guest house.

  3. I’m currently staying with Sabina (Lydia) in Olympic, where I’m staying for a total of 3 months. I’m doing research for my masters, and so I am interviewing women in Kibera. Initially I did not know Sabina, I only got her e-mail address through this website. I e-mailed her and then she was already very helpful. I’m so happy I decided to stay with her! She and her family are very welcoming, I really feel at home. Also, Olympic is a very nice area, where I feel safe going around on my own, now I know the way. I’m happy I decided to see Kibera for myself and did not only base my decision of coming here on the (bad) news that is coming from here. The people I meet are very friendly and I love walking around. Sabina is a great person, that helped me get some contacts at the start of my research.. since then things have gone very smoothly, I’m not stressed about my research.. Actually I’m enjoying every moment here! Also, Sabina is a great cook, the Kenyan dishes are nice and it is so nice to know that she is there if I have any questions about anything.. also in the beginning she really made sure I felt comfortable here.
I would definitely recommend anyone to stay at Sabina’s place. Whether is for research or volunteering, just to see Kibera or for a stay in Nairobi. The city centre can be reached easily from here, and also a large supermarket is not far away.. I would surely prefer this place over a hotel/hostel any time, because you will enjoy real Kenyan life!

  4. I first met Sabina when I was studying abroad in Kenya for a semester in spring 2011. As others have mentioned, there's no one better placed to orient you to the ins and outs of life in Nairobi. Sabina knows the city and its neighborhoods - the restaurants, the transportation system, the tourism points of interest, and also the development organizations and non-profits - like no one else. She's incredibly professional and reliable but also just amazingly fun to work with (and an amazing cook!)

In addition to leading the orientation for my study abroad semester, I also enlisted Sabina's help with my senior research project. She was instrumental in helping me secure phone and Skype interviews with community-based organizations in Kibera, as well as helping distribute follow-up surveys - basically, my research wouldn't have been possible without her help.

Anyone looking to study or stay in Nairobi should contact Sabina. I would recommend her for help with orientation or research a hundred times over!

  5. Sabina was hands down my most trusted companion in Kenya. For any question I had from bus routes to party places to cultural norms, Sabina had an understanding, accurate answer and would generously offer to accompany me whenever she could. Sabina was beside me for my first trip haggling in a market, weaving through Nairobi's overwhelmingly bustling city center, and navigating culturally appropriate attire and gifts. Beyond basic touristic and living needs, Sabina is extremely knowledgable of the NGO scene in Kibera and Nairobi writ large, as others here have mentioned.

I will definitely stay with Sabina the next chance I get to return to Nairobi!
